Community Care Durham fosters connections

Peggy Carville finds joy in the warmth of her Courtice home, surrounded by the love of her granddaughter, son-in-law, and grandson.

However, when the busy life of work and school takes her family away most days, Peggy finds loneliness creeps into her otherwise cheerful household.

“I just sit around the house,” she admits.

Recognizing the need for a change, Peggy decided to embark on a new adventure three months ago – she joined Community Care Durham’s Adult Day Program on Fridays.

Initially a novel experience, the day program has become a beacon of anticipation for Peggy.

“It’s interesting meeting new people,” she said, her eyes sparkling with newfound connections.

At the youthful age of 92 (soon to be 93 in March), Peggy fully immerses herself in the activities crafted by the program’s dedicated staff.

“Oftentimes if they (staff) are asking questions, they’re looking at me for the answers,” she chuckles, emphasizing her active and vibrant participation.

Despite not driving anymore, Peggy’s independence remains unwavering. Thanks to Community Care Durham’s Transportation service, she effortlessly makes her way to the Adult Day Program, proving that age is no barrier to staying engaged and connected.

“I’m on my own, but I’m capable of looking after myself,” Peggy asserts confidently, embodying the spirit of resilience that defines her generation.

As we enter the Season of Giving, the campaign seeks to support programs that enrich lives like Peggy’s. Join us in making a difference today. Together, let’s ensure that connections continue to flourish, not only for Peggy, but all our clients, providing them with the vibrancy and joy they deserve.

Because every story, especially Peggy’s, deserves to be filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of community.
