The rise in COVID-19 cases due to the highly transmissible OMICRON variant is causing wide-spread disruptions across Ontario’s health care system, prompting the government to re-institute restrictions that intend to blunt transmission levels of the virus. Community Care Durham is experiencing a high number of staff members and Personal Support Workers facing isolation due to COVID-19 exposure, which is temporarily affecting our ability to deliver the level of service many of our clients and caregivers have come to rely on.
We understand the frustration many of our clients and caregivers feel and ask for patience as we work through these challenging times. Despite these staffing difficulties, we are committed to supporting our clients in the absolute best way we can.
Staff and client safety is of utmost importance. Prior to the holiday and this wave, we proactively reinstated safety measures. All office staff must wear medical masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Those who can, are working from home. Front-line workers who deal directly with clients use N-95 masks, gloves, gowns, and face shields. We continue to require staff to abide by the governments vaccination policy.
Understandably, the challenges brought on by the OMICRON variant have been frustrating for everyone. As we all navigate these next few weeks, we ask you be kind to our staff and volunteers, knowing they are also responding to these current realities while providing the best care to you.
Please continue to follow the advice of the Government of Ontario to stay safe. Thank you for your understanding during this unusual time.
