Executive Director
Brent W. Farr is the Executive Director of Community Care Durham, a multi-service registered charitable organization providing support to adults and their caregivers with needs related to aging, physical and/or mental health. Community Care Durham has local offices in every municipality across Durham Region, providing support to clients and their families within their local communities.

Brent, a Certified General Accountant, has worked in the health and social services field since 1980. He previously worked for The Children’s Aid Society of Durham Region for fifteen years gaining progressive management experience including holding the position of Director of Finance and Administration. Prior to his recruitment as Executive Director of Community Care Durham, Brent held the position of Director of Finance and Administration for four years. Brent’s volunteer activities have included Hospice Durham, St. Vincent’s Kitchen, a local youth shelter, a local youth soccer club and Community Care Durham.

Brent describes a major challenge in health care today as the need to ensure that people can readily understand what options are available and can gain access to needed services in a timely and effective manner within their own community. “We need to simplify and clarify access to health services for people. We need to communicate with people and better educate them about the services that are available and how to best access these services. And this communication needs to take place before people are in a state of crisis.”

Brent believes that a person’s needs are best met through the delivery of services within local communities and communities are strengthened by people helping people, which he feels is one of the greatest attributes of Community Care Durham. “Our volunteers and staff provide critical support to our clients within their local communities, support that is essential to their well-being and sense of dignity.”
